The Unspoiled Queen

Saba
Her name derived
From African queens
She rises out
Of the Caribbean deep
A vision of
Remembered memory
Washed clean
By blue subconscious
Lofty mists
Cratered greens
Fruit the size
Of moonless nights
Visiting sands
Grace her shores
To be swept away
By caressing waves
Azure waters
Cover coral columns
Flying rays
Graze on dodging eels
The memories of
Her departed children
Are stirred on heavenly carpets
By dusting stars
Weathered men
Creased eyes deep
Recount quests
On plowing schooners
And solemn women
Carry this island gem
Thru hearts as brilliant
As snow-white lace
Life’s many follies
Its trampoline ways
Are soothed and eased
By her soaring views
The trade winds blow
Fresh and cool
As if they understand
Heat’s endless taunting
Villages whose names
Poetically echo
The travails of
Her beautiful children
And lives continue
On this tanzanite dream
Escaping thru fissures
Of volcanic memory
While the little Anolis
Of the mountain green
He kisses his mother
The Unspoiled Queen

A beautiful poem about my home, the place where my navel string is planted (or as family custom, glued in my baby album)...reminded me to be appreciative of all the blessings of my birth...including location...bless ups
